Our Dry Month

Why I agreed to this, I will never know... But Brandi and I decided to not have any alcohol for the entire month of January. Whoa…

A little background on this, Brandi and her husband Greg actually do this every year. I know… weirdos, right?? Every January, Brandi and Greg go clean and Randy (my husband) and I tell them “See you in February!”.

But for some odd reason, that I still don't understand, Randy and I agreed to go in on the torture with them.

Call it supporting one another, call it being there for your best friend, call it I was probably drunk when I agreed to it, but for a full month we were in it to win it! And you know what... we did!!

Let's be honest... it sucked. It was tough, and several nights Randy and I almost gave in. But we couldn't. We were doing this with our besties and we couldn't let them down. And Lord knows what Brandi would have done to me if I had had a drink... She's stronger than she looks.

The first few days really weren't that bad, especially coming off a New Year's Eve bender. But as we got over the hangover, that wine (or in Randy's case, beer) sure was looking good. But no! We had to be strong.

Brandi and I texted constantly, giving each other support, counting down the days. That's what a real bestie does, complains about the worst shit with you, but gives you strength to keep going... Misery loves company, right?

As badly as a I wanted that drink, I have to admit some good things came out of being sober. My house has never been this spotless before! With so much free time (we take drinking seriously around here) I had nothing to do but clean! I also was able to kick my workouts into high gear, and Randy snores WAY less! Side note... I hear from Greg that Brandi snores less, now too.

Fast forward to February 1st... which was a Wednesday, so on that Friday, Randy and I had our first drink in over a month. Randy was down for whatever he could find, I on the other hand was nervous. I felt guilty. I was doing so well! But I needed wine. I did it... And it was great!

But we didn't want to lose all that we had worked for. So we all agreed to limit ourselves. For whatever crazy reason, Brandi and Greg decided to go dry for another month! What?? I said... NOPE! I love my friends dearly, but not that much. Randy and I decided we would not drink during the week and try to only drink on a Friday or Saturday night.

Moral of the story... A little torture is not too bad. I prefer whips and paddles, but this was a good experience that we all benefited from.
